Olathe, KS Sewer Line Repairs & Replacement

Sewer line replacements and repairs should always be done by a professional—this is not a DIY fix, like pulling hair out of a drain or plunging a toilet. Not to worry, the pros at A-1 have the equipment and expertise to handle all sewer repair services, including sewer pipe repair/replacements and fixing clogged drains.

Causes of Sewer Line Problems

When standard drain cleaning efforts aren’t enough it may be necessary to repair or replace a section of your sewer line, or even the entire line. Here are some of the reasons replacing the line may be necessary:

• Corrosion of an old sewer pipe that caused the entire line to break or collapse

• Broken, cracked, or collapsed line due to changing weather conditions (e.g. freeze and thaw cycles), shifting soil, and settling, among other reasons

• Severe grease buildup that is restricting flow

• Foreign object that is restricting flow

• Leaking joints at the seals between sections of pipe (which allows water and sewage to escape and seep into the ground)

• Excessive tree root infiltration that cannot be cleared using a cable machine

A-1 uses a video camera to inspect the line and determine the cause of the problem. The camera captures and transmits these images to a device for viewing, while a radio transmitter pinpoints the exact location of the problem, including distance from the home and depth from the surface.

We can then analyze the problem and create a plan of action. Knowing exactly what and where the problem is allows us to target it more effectively, resulting in less costly repairs.

Options for Sewer Line Repair and Replacement

There are generally two options for sewer line repair/replacement, which our expert plumbing team will discuss with you in detail. They include:

Traditional repair/replacement

This method typically involves using a backhoe to dig up the earth or other materials surrounding the sewer line to expose the problem. Once we repair or replace the line, we use the backhoe to refill the area. The type of plumbing you have, the configuration of your sewer line, and where you live will all determine whether this is the best (or, in some cases, the only) option.

Trenchless replacement

This method of sewer pipe replacement is done by either:

Lining the pipe using a flexible, resin-coated tube that is blown or pulled into the damage pipe and inflated; also called “curing-in-place,” the resin hardens, creating a “pipe within a pipe” that has no joints and is resistant to corrosion.

“Bursting” the pipe, which involves pulling a new line through the old one (fracturing the old pipe in the process). Click here to read more about pipe bursting.

While trenchless options can cost more than conventional digging, it can actually be more cost-effective in the long run if digging a trench on your property will cause extensive damage to landscaping and require a large amount of restorative work.
