When to Replace a Bathroom Sink Faucet

Your bathroom sink faucet begins to leak so you crank the handle as tight as you can and the leak continues. Now you’re wondering if you should try and repair it even further or just replace the unit. What you do know is that you can’t let the faucet keep leaking.

You’ve reached the crossroads where you need to call in a professional plumber. If your plumber decides that a simple repair is in order, it shouldn’t take more than an hour to get the job done, once your plumber has secured all the right parts.

Usually, the problem can be traced back to a faulty stem for a single handle faucet or faulty stems for two-handled faucets. Faulty stems cause the cold and hot water to be mixed together and they lead to leaking around the handles.

If your home has one of those quality faucets installed, then they’re likely guaranteed for life. In that case, the manufacturer will send you the replacement parts for free.

Should I repair or replace my faucet?

Is it worth it to you to repair your faucet instead of replacing it? If it’s one of those average faucets, it’s probably not worth repairing, but if you have a higher-end faucet, such as a Kohler or a Hansgrohe, then it’s probably worth it to order the replacement parts.

Some of the higher-end faucets can cost more than $1,000. So, if you have one of the more expensive models, we’d probably recommend repairing it instead of replacing it.

There is one thing to keep in mind – a faucet’s average lifespan.

Generally, faucets last around 10 years. It’s very common for homeowners to start experience problems around the 8-year mark. If you’re not sure which way to go, just remember that if your faucet is 8-years or older, then it will probably cost more to repair it than replace it.

Do you have a leaky bathroom or kitchen sink faucet on your hands? If so, contact A-1 Sewer & Septic Service Inc. to have a Kansas City plumber solve the problem for you!
